Description

Taquitos are crispy, rolled tortillas filled with seasoned meat or beans, then fried until golden brown. These bite-sized treats are perfect for a snack, appetizer, or a fun dinner.

  • 2 cups cooked chicken or beef, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Sour cream, guacamole, or salsa (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave until soft and pliable, about 10-15 seconds per tortilla.
  2. In a bowl, mix the shredded chicken or beef with cheese, onion, cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Place 2 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each tortilla and roll tightly to form a taquito.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the taquitos in batches, turning occasionally, until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Transfer the taquitos to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve hot with sour cream, guacamole, or salsa for dipping.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can bake the taquitos at 425°F (220°C) for 15–20 minutes, spraying with cooking spray for a crispy texture.
  • Fillings can be varied with beans, cheese, or even vegetables for a vegetarian version.
  • These taquitos freeze well before frying, so you can make a batch in advance and cook them later.
