Description

A bold, buttery, lemon garlic pasta dish with tender shrimp, juicy chicken, linguine, and a warm spicy kick from crushed red pepper flakes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces linguine
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese, optional
  • 1/2 cup reserved pasta water, used as needed

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Pat the shrimp dry and season with 1/4 teaspoon salt and a pinch of black pepper.
  3. Season the chicken pieces with 1/2 teaspoon salt and the remaining black pepper.
  4. Add olive oil to the skillet and cook the chicken for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
  5. Add the shrimp to the same skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side, just until pink. Transfer to the plate with the chicken.
  6. Cook the linguine until al dente, then reserve 1/2 cup pasta water before draining.
  7. Lower the skillet heat to medium and add butter, garlic, and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  8. Stir in chicken broth, lemon juice, and lemon zest, scraping up the flavorful bits from the skillet.
  9. Return the chicken, shrimp, and drained linguine to the skillet.
  10. Toss everything together, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time until the sauce turns glossy and coats the pasta.
  11. Stir in parsley and Parmesan if using, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp, since they turn rubbery quickly.
  • Save pasta water before draining because it helps the sauce cling to the noodles.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for the brightest flavor.
  • Add more crushed red pepper flakes at the table for extra heat.
