Description

Juicy meatballs simmered in a rich smoky chili sauce, tucked into soft sub rolls and topped with melted cheese for a hearty and comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 4 sub rolls
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C or heat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until just mixed.
  3. Lightly grease a baking tray or heat olive oil in a skillet.
  4. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs and place them on the tray or skillet.
  5. Cook the meatballs until browned and fully cooked, then transfer them to a saucepan with tomato sauce, chili powder, and paprika. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Place cooked meatballs into sub rolls, spoon extra sauce over them, and top with shredded cheese.
  7. Toast briefly until the cheese melts, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep meatballs tender.
  • Toast the bread lightly to prevent sogginess.
  • Adjust chili powder to control spice level.
