Description

A warm and savory Portuguese prego sandwich loaded with juicy garlic steak, melted provolone cheese, caramelized onions, and creamy mustard sauce tucked inside crusty Portuguese rolls. Served with crispy fries, this comforting sandwich is rich, satisfying, and packed with bold flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced sirloin steak
  • 4 crusty Portuguese rolls
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 pound frozen fries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the frozen fries package instructions and bake the fries until golden and crispy.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, butter, mustard, mayonnaise, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 6 to 8 minutes until softened and lightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the sliced sirloin steak to the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until browned and juicy.
  5. Return the onions to the skillet and stir together with the steak.
  6. Place provolone cheese slices over the hot steak mixture and allow them to melt slightly.
  7. Split the Portuguese rolls and spread the garlic butter mixture inside each roll.
  8. Lightly toast the rolls in the skillet until golden.
  9. Fill each roll with the cheesy steak and onion mixture.
  10. Serve immediately with crispy fries on the side.

Notes

  • Slice the steak against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • Toast the bread lightly to prevent sogginess.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor.
  • Add hot sauce or chili peppers if you prefer extra heat.
