Description
One of THE VERY BEST Salisbury Steak recipes features tender, flavorful beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy, perfect for a comforting classic meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
- Shape mixture into 4 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove patties and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms until tender, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove raw flour taste.
- Gradually add beef broth while stirring, then add ketchup and Dijon mustard. Cook until sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Return patties to skillet, spoon sauce over them, cover, and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
Notes
- Use fresh mushrooms for best flavor.
- Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep patties tender.
- Adjust seasoning in the gravy to taste.
