Description

A comforting casserole that combines juicy chunks of meatloaf with creamy cheddar shells and a golden cheesy topping. Perfect for a hearty family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork (optional)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 8 oz medium pasta shells
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (for cheese sauce)
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork (if using), breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into a loaf and place in the baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, cook pasta shells according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly, until thickened. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese and paprika until smooth.
  5. Cut the partially baked meatloaf into bite-sized chunks. Combine the meatloaf pieces, cooked pasta shells, and cheese sauce, then transfer to the baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top and bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Add peas or broccoli for extra vegetables.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
