Description
A comforting casserole that combines juicy chunks of meatloaf with creamy cheddar shells and a golden cheesy topping. Perfect for a hearty family dinner.

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork (optional)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 8 oz medium pasta shells
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk (for cheese sauce)
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork (if using), breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into a loaf and place in the baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook pasta shells according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly, until thickened. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese and paprika until smooth.
- Cut the partially baked meatloaf into bite-sized chunks. Combine the meatloaf pieces, cooked pasta shells, and cheese sauce, then transfer to the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top and bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
- Add peas or broccoli for extra vegetables.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
