Description
A comforting Japanese rice bowl featuring tender thinly sliced beef and sweet onions simmered in a savory soy and mirin sauce, served over fluffy white rice and finished with fresh green onions and a soft egg.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound thinly sliced beef
- 2 cups uncooked short grain white rice
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons mirin
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
Instructions
- Cook the short grain white rice according to package instructions until fluffy and tender.
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, mirin, and granulated sugar until the sugar dissolves.
- Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and add the thinly sliced yellow onion.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet and pour the sauce mixture over the beef and onions.
- Let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 to 7 minutes until the onions soften and the beef becomes tender.
- Crack the eggs directly into the skillet and allow them to cook lightly in the simmering sauce.
- Spoon the cooked rice into bowls, top with the beef and onion mixture, and finish with sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
- Slice the beef very thin so it cooks quickly and stays tender.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding a little more sugar if desired.
- Serve immediately while the rice and beef are hot.
- A soft egg adds extra richness to the bowl.
