Description

Juicy meatballs simmered in a rich caramelized onion gravy and topped with melted cheese for the ultimate comforting dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper until just mixed.
  3. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring often, until deeply caramelized. Pour in beef broth and thyme, then let it simmer.
  5. Shape the mixture into meatballs and place them into the onion sauce. Cook gently until done, then transfer to an oven-safe dish and top with grated cheese.
  6. Bake until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  7. Let rest for a few minutes before serving and enjoy.

Notes

  • Cook onions slowly for the best deep flavor
  • Do not overmix the meat to keep meatballs tender
  • Adjust seasoning before baking if needed
