- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch cake pan.
- Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until pale and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry. Stir in vanilla.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
