Description

A stunning zebra-striped vanilla and chocolate cake layered with a decadent cream cheese Oreo frosting. Perfect for birthdays, parties, or any special occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups (350g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) water
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1 1/2 cups (150g) crushed Oreo cookies (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla, mixing well.
  4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter in half. To one half, add cocoa powder mixed with water and stir until smooth.
  6. To create the zebra pattern, spoon 2 tbsp of vanilla batter into the center of the prepared pan, then 2 tbsp of chocolate batter on top. Continue alternating batters until the pans are full.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks.
  8. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until fluffy. Fold in crushed Oreos.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes and stack them. Decorate with extra Oreo crumbs if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to maintain the zebra pattern.
  • Chill cakes before frosting for cleaner layers.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
