Description

These Spiced Roasted Walnuts are sweet, smoky, and warmly spiced with cinnamon, ginger, and chipotle chile. Perfect as a snack, holiday treat, or crunchy topping for salads and desserts.


Ingredients

  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 4 cups walnut halves
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ teaspoon ground chipotle chile

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg white and water until frothy.
  3. Add the walnut halves and maple syrup, tossing until well coated.
  4. In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, ginger, salt, allspice, and chipotle chile.
  5. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the walnuts and stir to evenly coat.
  6. Spread the walnuts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Roast for 25–30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until golden and fragrant.
  8. Allow to cool completely before serving or storing in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Adjust spice level by adding more or less chipotle chile.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
