Description

Tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket slow-cooked with sweet caramelized onions in a rich balsamic-infused gravy — a hearty and flavorful dish perfect for cozy dinners or special occasions.

  • 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season brisket with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear brisket for 3–4 minutes on each side until browned.
  2. Transfer brisket to a slow cooker. Add sliced onions and garlic on top.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Pour over the brisket and onions.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8–9 hours, or until brisket is tender.
  5. Remove brisket and slice against the grain. Transfer cooking liquid and onions to a saucepan.
  6. Mix cornstarch and water into a slurry, then stir into the saucepan. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened into gravy.
  7. Serve brisket topped with balsamic onion gravy and garnish with fresh parsley.

  • Searing the brisket before slow cooking adds rich flavor.
  • For extra depth, add a splash of red wine to the cooking liquid.
