Description
A cozy fall breakfast bake featuring brioche soaked in apple cider custard, layered with caramelized apples and warm spices, then baked to golden perfection in a skillet.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 cups brioche bread, cubed
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
- Maple syrup (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a skillet with butter.
- In a large bowl, whisk together apple cider, milk, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
- In a separate pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the apples for 3–4 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.
- Layer cubed brioche and sautéed apples in the greased skillet. Pour custard mixture over the top, gently pressing bread to soak.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and set. Tent with foil if browning too fast.
- Let it cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with maple syrup before serving.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread for the best texture.
- Warm the milk and cider slightly for a smoother custard blend.
- Let the dish rest before slicing for cleaner servings.
