Description
Shrimp and Cream Cheese Wontons are crispy, golden bites filled with a creamy, savory shrimp mixture wrapped in delicate wonton wrappers. They’re perfect as a party appetizer, snack, or addition to your next Asian-inspired meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, and finely chopped
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- 20–24 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Water, for sealing edges
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix chopped shrimp, cream cheese, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, ginger, and sesame oil until well combined.
- Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of filling to the center.
- Moisten the edges with water. Fold the wrapper diagonally into a triangle and press edges to seal tightly, removing air. You can also bring the two opposite corners together for a traditional wonton shape.
- Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry wontons in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per batch.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Make sure the wontons are sealed well to prevent filling leakage while frying.
- You can freeze uncooked wontons and fry straight from frozen—just add 1–2 extra minutes cooking time.
- Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes as a lighter alternative to deep frying.
