- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 lb (450g) breakfast sausage
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it up as it browns.
- Once fully cooked, sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to coat.
- Slowly add the milk while stirring, and cook until the gravy thickens (about 5–7 minutes).
- Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Roll out the puff pastry slightly and place it in a greased pie dish or baking dish, allowing the edges to hang over.
- Pour the sausage gravy into the pastry-lined dish.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over the top, or add another sheet of pastry on top and seal the edges.
- Brush the top with beaten egg.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use spicy sausage for extra kick.
- You can make the gravy ahead of time and refrigerate it.
- Serve with a side of fresh fruit or salad for a complete meal.
