Description

Silky smooth and lightly sweetened, this panna cotta is a luxurious yet easy-to-make Italian dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • Heavy Cream: 2 cups (480 ml) – The rich, velvety base of the dessert that provides luscious body.
  • Whole Milk: 1 cup (240 ml) – Lightens the cream just enough for a smoother, more balanced bite.
  • Granulated Sugar: 1/2 cup (100 g) – Adds the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the flavor.
  • Unflavored Gelatin Powder: 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 g) – Sets the panna cotta while keeping it soft and jiggly.
  • Cold Water: 3 tablespoons (45 ml) – Used to bloom the gelatin properly.
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 teaspoons (10 ml) – Adds warmth and depth to the creamy base.
  • Pinch of Salt: Balances the sweetness and enhances the vanilla flavor.

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: No actual preheating, but lightly grease your ramekins if you plan to unmold the panna cotta later.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over cold water and let it bloom for 5–10 minutes. Meanwhile, combine cream, milk, and sugar in a saucepan.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Gently heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the liquid is hot but not boiling.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Remove from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix well and strain through a fine sieve into a pouring jug.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Pour the mixture into your serving vessels and let cool to room temperature.
  6. Finishing Touches: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until fully set.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve directly in the glass or unmold by dipping the ramekin in warm water for a few seconds, then invert onto a plate. Garnish with fruit, compote, or herbs.

Notes

  • Always bloom gelatin in cold water, not warm.
  • Strain the mixture before pouring for extra smoothness.
  • Let the panna cotta chill completely for the best texture.
  • Use real vanilla beans for a richer flavor and visual appeal.
