Description

Nutella Morning Buns are soft, fluffy, and buttery pastries filled with rich Nutella and finished with a light butter glaze and a dusting of confectioners’ sugar. Perfect for breakfast or brunch treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Dough: 2 3/4 – 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • Filling: 2/3 cup Nutella
  • Finishing: 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Warm milk slightly and mix with egg. Gradually add to dry ingredients and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Cover dough and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1-2 hours.
  4. Roll out dough into a rectangle. Spread Nutella evenly over the surface.
  5. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice into individual buns.
  6. Place buns on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing slightly apart. Cover and let rise 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake buns for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Brush buns with melted butter immediately after baking and dust with confectioners’ sugar.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For easier spreading, slightly warm Nutella before using.
  • Do not overfill to prevent Nutella from leaking during baking.
  • Dough can be prepared the night before and refrigerated for slow fermentation.
  • Serve fresh for the best texture, or lightly toast the next day.
