Description

An easy twist on the classic beef Wellington using seasoned minced beef wrapped in flaky puff pastry. Perfect for a family dinner or a special occasion meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb minced beef
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten (plus 1 for egg wash)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until softened, then add mushrooms and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add minced beef, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is browned and moisture has evaporated. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  4. Stir in breadcrumbs and beaten egg to bind the mixture.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Place the beef mixture in the center and shape into a log. Fold the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges well.
  6. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with egg wash.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Chilling the beef mixture before assembling helps it hold its shape.
  • You can add a thin layer of Dijon mustard inside the pastry for extra flavor.
  • Serve with gravy, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.
