Description
An easy twist on the classic beef Wellington using seasoned minced beef wrapped in flaky puff pastry. Perfect for a family dinner or a special occasion meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb minced beef
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, beaten (plus 1 for egg wash)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until softened, then add mushrooms and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Add minced beef, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is browned and moisture has evaporated. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
- Stir in breadcrumbs and beaten egg to bind the mixture.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Place the beef mixture in the center and shape into a log. Fold the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges well.
- Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with egg wash.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Chilling the beef mixture before assembling helps it hold its shape.
- You can add a thin layer of Dijon mustard inside the pastry for extra flavor.
- Serve with gravy, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.
