Description

Meatball & Mashed Potato Bake is a cozy and hearty casserole that layers creamy mashed potatoes with juicy meatballs and a rich tomato or gravy-based sauce, then bakes to golden perfection. It’s the ultimate comfort food for family dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared ahead)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce or brown gravy (depending on preference)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 12–16 meatballs.
  3. Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until fully cooked.
  4. In a baking dish, spread the mashed potatoes evenly as the bottom layer.
  5. Top with the baked meatballs, then pour marinara sauce or gravy evenly over the top.
  6. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Use store-bought mashed potatoes and meatballs for a quicker version.
  • Try swapping beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter dish.
  • For extra texture, broil the top for 2–3 minutes at the end.
