Description
These maple waffle brown butter sugar cookies combine rich, nutty brown butter with sweet maple flavor and waffle-like texture — a cozy twist on a classic favorite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 1/4 cups brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Optional: powdered sugar or maple glaze for topping
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and cook until golden brown and nutty, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, mix browned butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until well combined.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time, then add maple syrup and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until a dough forms.
- Chill dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and place on baking sheet. Press lightly with a fork or waffle press for texture, if desired.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers are soft.
- Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Drizzle with maple glaze or dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- Brown butter adds a rich, nutty flavor — don’t skip this step!
- Chill the dough to prevent spreading and enhance the flavor.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
