  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups ground walnuts
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add sour cream and vanilla extract, then mix until a soft dough forms. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Prepare the filling by combining ground walnuts and brown sugar in a separate bowl.
  5. Divide the chilled dough into three equal parts. Roll each into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Spread the walnut filling evenly over each rectangle and roll tightly into logs.
  7. Place rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet. Whisk the egg and milk together and brush over the rolls.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely before slicing into ½-inch cookies.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve.
