Ingredients
Scale
- 500 g steak, thinly sliced
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 cups flour, seasoned with salt
- Oil for frying
- Sauce:
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 3–4 tbsp honey, to taste
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce or oyster sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 500 g noodles, to serve
- Sliced spring onions, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare beef: In a bowl, whisk egg with 2 tbsp soy sauce. Dip steak slices into egg mixture, then coat evenly with seasoned flour.
- Fry beef: Heat oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry coated beef in batches until golden and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
- Make sauce: In a separate pan, sauté chopped onion until soft. Add crushed garlic and cook 1 minute. Stir in soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, hoisin (or oyster) sauce, and water. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Cook noodles: Prepare noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Combine: Toss crispy beef into sauce until coated. Serve over cooked noodles and garnish with sliced spring onions.
Notes
- Adjust honey in the sauce to control sweetness.
- For extra crispiness, double-dip beef in egg and flour before frying.
- You can use rice noodles, egg noodles, or udon noodles based on preference.
- Leftover beef can be stored in the fridge and reheated in a skillet to maintain crispiness.
