Description

Homemade Strawberry Shortcake features tender, flaky biscuits layered with sweet macerated strawberries and whipped cream, making a classic, refreshing dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for strawberries)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for whipped cream)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for whipped cream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add milk and vanilla extract; stir until just combined.
  5. Turn dough onto floured surface, gently knead 3-4 times, then pat into a 1-inch thick round.
  6. Cut into 8 biscuits using a biscuit cutter and place on baking sheet.
  7. Bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
  8. Meanwhile, combine sliced strawberries with sugar and let macerate for 30 minutes.
  9. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  10. To assemble, split biscuits, layer with strawberries and whipped cream, then top with biscuit tops.
