Description
A classic homemade margarita pizza with a thin golden crust, bright tomato sauce, creamy fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil, baked at high heat for that perfect balance of crisp and chewy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (450 grams) pizza dough, room temperature
- 1 cup (240 ml) tomato sauce
- 8 ounces (225 grams) fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or torn
- 10 to 12 fresh basil leaves, whole
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 grams) salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- In a small bowl, stir the tomato sauce with half of the salt until evenly combined.
- Carefully remove the hot stone or baking sheet and lightly brush it with a bit of olive oil.
- Stretch the pizza dough into a 12 inch circle and place it on the hot surface. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, then add the torn mozzarella evenly. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the top.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted with light golden spots.
- Remove from the oven and immediately scatter the fresh basil leaves over the top. Sprinkle the remaining salt.
- Slice and serve hot.
Notes
- Let the dough rest at room temperature before stretching for easier shaping.
- Pat the fresh mozzarella dry to prevent excess moisture on the pizza.
- Rotate the pizza halfway through baking for even browning.
