Description
This Halloween Pizza with Black Crust is a spooky twist on a classic! Made with food-grade activated charcoal, the crust turns jet black, making it the perfect base for your favorite pizza toppings at a Halloween party or themed dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup warm water
- 1 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons activated charcoal powder (food grade)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, activated charcoal powder, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out the dough into a pizza shape and transfer to a baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Top with your favorite Halloween-themed toppings (like mozzarella ghosts, olive spiders, or pumpkin-shaped pepperoni).
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until crust is cooked through and toppings are bubbly.
- Slice and serve immediately.
Notes
- Make it extra festive with themed toppings: use olives for spiders, mozzarella cut into ghost shapes, or orange bell peppers for pumpkins.
- If you don’t have activated charcoal, you can use black cocoa powder, though the flavor will differ slightly.
- The dough can be made a day ahead and refrigerated until ready to use.
