Description

A rich, creamy dip infused with the deep, sweet flavor of caramelized onions, elevated with garlic, chives, and a luscious blend of sour cream and cream cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Place a large skillet over medium-low heat and allow it to warm up for a couple of minutes.
  2. Add the butter and olive oil to the pan. Once melted, stir in the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly, stirring often, for 30 to 40 minutes until deeply golden and soft. Add the minced garlic during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  3. Transfer the caramelized onions to a bowl and let them cool to room temperature.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, combine sour cream, softened cream cheese, and mayonnaise until smooth.
  5. Fold in the cooled onion-garlic mixture, black pepper, and most of the chopped chives. Stir gently until fully blended.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Garnish with the remaining chives.
  7. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with chips, bread, or veggies.

Notes

  • Letting the dip chill enhances the flavor and texture.
  • Caramelize the onions slowly for best results. Rushing will burn them.
  • You can prepare the dip a day ahead and store in the fridge.
  • Use full-fat dairy products for the creamiest finish.
