Description

Soft, fluffy, and golden-fried donuts coated in a classic sweet vanilla glaze. These homemade glazed donuts are bakery-quality and perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons warm water (110°F / 45°C)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, warm milk, sugar, salt, butter, egg, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness and cut out donuts using a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small).
  5. Place the donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts a few at a time until golden brown on both sides, about 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels.
  7. To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  8. While donuts are still warm, dip them into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.

Notes

  • Make sure oil stays around 350°F to prevent burning or greasy donuts.
  • Let the glaze set for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  • These are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 1–2 days.
