Description

Tender shrimp cooked in a bright garlic butter lemon sauce that feels elegant but comes together in just 20 minutes. This easy skillet dish is perfect with bread, rice, or pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 to 6 thin lemon slices, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry and season with the kosher salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if using.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the chicken broth, lemon juice, and lemon zest.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of the butter.
  4. When the butter melts, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring often, until fragrant.
  5. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until pink and opaque.
  6. Pour in the broth and lemon mixture, then stir gently to coat the shrimp.
  7. Let the sauce simmer for 1 to 2 minutes until slightly reduced.
  8. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and swirl until the sauce is glossy.
  9. Stir in the chopped parsley, adjust seasoning if needed, and garnish with lemon slices.
  10. Serve immediately with bread, rice, or pasta.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp or they can become rubbery.
  • Prep the garlic, parsley, and lemon before you start because the cooking moves quickly.
  • Seafood stock can be used instead of chicken broth for a deeper seafood flavor.
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
