Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 12-cavity donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the 3/4 cup whole milk, sour cream, egg, melted butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Fold in the 1/3 cup rainbow sprinkles.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag or zip-top bag with one corner snipped off. Pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the tops spring back lightly and the edges are just golden.
- Cool the donuts in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk together the powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons whole milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract for the glaze until smooth.
- Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, let the excess drip off, and top with the remaining 2 tablespoons rainbow sprinkles.
- Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use jimmies-style sprinkles for the best color and texture in the batter.
- Do not overmix the batter or the donuts may turn out dense.
- Let the donuts cool fully before glazing so the topping sets nicely.
- Unglazed donuts can be frozen for up to 2 months.
