For the Dough
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 egg
For the Filling
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, chicken, turkey, or lamb)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: 1/2 cup shredded cheese
For Baking
- 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
- Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the filling: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until soft. Stir in ground meat, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and fully cooked. Let cool.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide into equal portions (about 12 pieces).
- Flatten each piece, place a spoonful of filling in the center, and seal into a ball. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
- Arrange filled rolls seam-side down in a greased oven-safe skillet.
- Cover and let rise for 20–30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with melted butter and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve warm.
