Description

Dirty rice is a classic Cajun comfort dish made with long-grain rice, ground beef, sausage, aromatic vegetables, and bold Cajun seasoning for a flavorful one-pot meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups long grain rice
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 pound ground beef (85/15)
  • 1/2 pound pork sausage
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, minced
  • 1/2 yellow onion, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef and pork sausage, breaking apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in minced bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Season with Cajun seasoning and stir well.
  5. Add the rice and toast lightly in the mixture for 2 minutes.
  6. Pour in beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  7. Stir in 1/2 cup water if needed to loosen the rice and adjust consistency.
  8. Fluff with a fork and serve hot.

  • Use a mix of ground beef and sausage for authentic depth of flavor.
  • Add chicken livers for a traditional Cajun-style dirty rice.
  • Adjust Cajun seasoning to your spice preference.
