Description
Dirty rice is a classic Cajun comfort dish made with long-grain rice, ground beef, sausage, aromatic vegetables, and bold Cajun seasoning for a flavorful one-pot meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups long grain rice
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 pound ground beef (85/15)
- 1/2 pound pork sausage
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 green bell pepper, minced
- 1/2 yellow onion, minced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add ground beef and pork sausage, breaking apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
- Stir in minced bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Season with Cajun seasoning and stir well.
- Add the rice and toast lightly in the mixture for 2 minutes.
- Pour in beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Stir in 1/2 cup water if needed to loosen the rice and adjust consistency.
- Fluff with a fork and serve hot.
Notes
- Use a mix of ground beef and sausage for authentic depth of flavor.
- Add chicken livers for a traditional Cajun-style dirty rice.
- Adjust Cajun seasoning to your spice preference.
- Pairs well with fried chicken, catfish, or collard greens.
