Description

Crawfish Bread is a Louisiana favorite, combining tender crawfish tails with melty cheese, garlic, and spices, all baked into crusty French bread. It’s rich, savory, and perfect for Mardi Gras or any Southern-inspired gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 lb cooked crawfish tails (peeled, with fat)
  • 1/4 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and bell pepper and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  3. Stir in crawfish tails and Cajun seasoning. Cook for 2–3 minutes until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, mozzarella, cheddar, green onions, and parsley. Fold in the crawfish mixture.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly over both halves of the French bread.
  6. Place the bread on the baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Optionally, broil for 1–2 minutes to brown the top slightly. Let cool a bit before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use shrimp as a substitute if crawfish is unavailable.
  • Adjust spice level with more or less Cajun seasoning or a dash of hot sauce.
  • This dish is great for parties and can be made ahead and reheated.
