Description
Coffee Buttercream Frosting is a rich, smooth, and flavorful frosting made with butter, powdered sugar, and a bold kick of coffee—perfect for topping cakes, cupcakes, or brownies with a sophisticated twist.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee or espresso powder
- 1 tablespoon hot water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Dissolve instant coffee or espresso powder in hot water. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Pour in the dissolved coffee, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on high speed until frosting is smooth and creamy.
- If the frosting is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk; if too thin, add more powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached.
Notes
- Use strong brewed coffee instead of instant powder for a milder coffee flavor.
- Pairs beautifully with chocolate, vanilla, or caramel-flavored cakes.
- Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 1 week. Bring to room temperature before using.
