Description

This creamy copycat Chick-fil-A mac and cheese recipe features tender elbow macaroni baked in a rich, cheesy sauce made with cheddar, parmesan, and romano, then topped with extra melted cheddar for a golden finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 3/4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded romano cheese
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Extra cheddar cheese, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in cream and milk, stirring constantly until smooth and slightly thickened.
  5. Reduce heat to low and stir in cheddar, parmesan, and romano cheeses until melted and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Add cooked macaroni to the sauce and stir until fully coated.
  7. Transfer mac and cheese to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle extra cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Serve hot as a comforting side dish or main course.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, add more cream or a touch of Velveeta cheese.
  • Broil for the last 2 minutes for an extra golden topping.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be reheated with a splash of milk.
