Description

A classic Cheese and Onion Sandwich combines sharp cheese with sweet or tangy onions, nestled between slices of soft bread. It’s a simple yet flavorful comfort food, perfect for lunch or a light snack.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (white or whole grain)
  • 4 oz (115g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated or sliced
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise or butter (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: lettuce or arugula for added crunch

Instructions

  1. Spread mayonnaise or butter on one side of each slice of bread, if using.
  2. Layer the cheese evenly on two of the bread slices.
  3. Add thinly sliced red onion over the cheese, and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Top with lettuce or arugula if desired.
  5. Place the remaining slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.
  6. Cut in half and serve immediately. For a warm version, grill until golden and cheese is melted.
