- 4 oz (115g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated or sliced
- 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise or butter (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: lettuce or arugula for added crunch
Instructions
- Spread mayonnaise or butter on one side of each slice of bread, if using.
- Layer the cheese evenly on two of the bread slices.
- Add thinly sliced red onion over the cheese, and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Top with lettuce or arugula if desired.
- Place the remaining slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.
- Cut in half and serve immediately. For a warm version, grill until golden and cheese is melted.
