- 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked sausage or pepperoni (optional)
- 1/4 cup cooked spinach (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle on a lightly floured surface.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, oregano, garlic powder, and optional fillings like sausage or spinach.
- Spread the cheese mixture evenly on one half of the dough, leaving about an inch of border around the edge.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal tightly.
- Brush the top of the calzone with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Place the calzone on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Feel free to experiment with different fillings such as mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, or ham.
- For a crispy crust, you can also bake the calzone directly on a pizza stone.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or freeze for later use.
