Description

A Calzone is a folded pizza filled with a variety of ingredients such as cheese, meats, and vegetables, creating a pocket of deliciousness. It’s perfect for a meal on the go or a fun pizza night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked sausage or pepperoni (optional)
  • 1/4 cup cooked spinach (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1/4 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, oregano, garlic powder, and optional fillings like sausage or spinach.
  4. Spread the cheese mixture evenly on one half of the dough, leaving about an inch of border around the edge.
  5. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal tightly.
  6. Brush the top of the calzone with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Place the calzone on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Feel free to experiment with different fillings such as mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, or ham.
  • For a crispy crust, you can also bake the calzone directly on a pizza stone.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or freeze for later use.
