Description

Black Forest Poke Cake is a rich and indulgent dessert that combines the classic flavors of chocolate and cherry in an easy-to-make format. A moist chocolate cake is infused with cherry pie filling and chocolate pudding, then topped with whipped topping and chocolate shavings for a decadent finish.

  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1 box (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 tub (8 oz) whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip), thawed
  • Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips (for garnish)
  • Fresh cherries or maraschino cherries (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare and bake the chocolate cake according to the package instructions in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Once the cake is baked and still warm, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake, about 1 inch apart.
  3. Spoon cherry pie filling over the cake, gently spreading it so the cherries and sauce sink into the holes.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes until thickened. Let it sit for another 2 minutes, then spread evenly over the cherry layer.
  5. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1–2 hours to set the pudding.
  6. Before serving, spread the whipped topping evenly over the pudding layer.
  7. Garnish with chocolate shavings and cherries if desired. Slice and serve chilled.
