Description
Golden baked hash browns with crispy edges and a creamy, cheesy center. This comforting potato dish is simple to prepare and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a satisfying side.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups shredded potatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a baking dish with butter.
- In a large mixing bowl combine shredded potatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, finely chopped onion, melted butter, sour cream, salt, and black pepper. Mix until everything is evenly combined.
- Prepare the baking dish by making sure it is evenly greased so the potatoes do not stick while baking.
- Spread the potato mixture evenly into the baking dish and gently press the surface so it forms an even layer.
- Bake for about 40 minutes until the top becomes golden brown and the edges are crispy.
- Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes so it can set slightly.
- Slice into portions and serve warm while the top stays crisp and the inside remains creamy.
Notes
- Pat shredded potatoes dry before mixing to remove excess moisture and improve crispiness.
- Use freshly shredded potatoes for the best texture and flavor.
- Allow the dish to rest briefly before cutting so the portions hold together better.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to bring back the crispy edges.
