Awesome Blossom Onion Bites are a fun, bite-sized twist on the classic blooming onion. These crispy, golden onion petals are perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection, making them a crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.

- 2 large sweet onions
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Ranch or spicy dipping sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Peel and cut onions into bite-sized petals or chunks. Separate layers and soak in buttermilk for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove onion pieces from buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then dredge in flour mixture until fully coated.
- Fry onion bites in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra crispy bites, double dip: repeat buttermilk and flour coating before frying.
- Use Vidalia or other sweet onions for the best flavor.
- Air-fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes for a lighter version.
