Description

Aromatic Green Onion Garlic Butter Bread Tangzhong is a soft, fluffy bread infused with savory green onions and garlic, enriched with buttery goodness and made tender using the Japanese tangzhong method for perfect texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup tangzhong (water roux made from 3 tbsp flour and 1/2 cup water)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tangzhong by whisking flour and water in a small saucepan, cooking over medium heat until thickened. Cool to room temperature.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it activate for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  3. Add tangzhong, flour, salt, and softened butter to the yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth dough, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Fold in chopped green onions and minced garlic evenly.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls. Place in a greased baking pan.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven, brush with more butter, and cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Tangzhong technique helps keep the bread soft and fresh longer.
  • Add extra garlic butter on top for richer flavor.
  • Store bread in an airtight container to maintain softness.
