Description
A rich and flavorful cherry jam infused with the sweet almond flavor of Amaretto liqueur. Perfect for spreading on toast, pairing with cheese, or adding to desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh or frozen pitted cherries
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup Amaretto liqueur
- 1 packet (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (optional, for thicker consistency)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine cherries and lemon juice. If using fresh cherries, slightly mash them to release juices.
- Stir in the sugar and mix well. Let sit for 10–15 minutes to macerate.
- Place the saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
- Optional: Stir in pectin if using. Boil hard for 1–2 minutes to activate.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 15–25 minutes, stirring often, until the mixture thickens to your desired jam consistency.
- Stir in the Amaretto and simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Remove from heat and ladle into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
- Seal jars and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes if canning, or cool and refrigerate for short-term storage.
Notes
- Use sour or sweet cherries based on your flavor preference.
- Amaretto can be replaced with almond extract (1 tsp) for a non-alcoholic version.
- For smoother jam, blend the cherries before cooking.
- Store unopened canned jars in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year.
